Teamwork

Real-life tasks are rarely the work of a single person. Most meaningful achievements — building a product, running an event, or even winning a game — demand the combined effort of many individuals. When people pool their efforts deliberately to reach a shared goal, that collective action is called teamwork. It is not simply people working side by side; it is people working together, where each person's contribution supports and depends on the others'.

The book illustrates this with the world of sports. A cricket team is a classic example. A bowler may deliver a perfect ball, but the wicket is only taken if a fielder completes the catch. The bowler's skill alone is not enough — the fielder's alertness and hands are equally essential. In the same way, a batsman's runs matter only if the bowlers can restrict the opposition and the fielders can save boundaries. To win a match, every member must contribute across all three departments: batting, bowling, and fielding. No single player, however talented, can carry the game alone. …
