Several practical measures reduce noise pollution. Planting trees in and around noise sources is effective because plants absorb sound and lower ambient noise levels. Regular servicing and tuning of automobile engines reduces the noise generated by vehicles and machinery. At worksites with high noise levels, workers should be provided with ear plugs and earmuffs to protect their hearing.
