Zoology · Ch 1 — Reproduction in Organisms
Introduction
Introduction
Every living organism moves through the same broad life cycle — birth, growth, development, maturation, reproduction and death — and reproduction is the one step every organism, without exception, shares. It is simply the biological process by which an organism produces offspring, which then grow and mature until they are ready to repeat the cycle themselves. Reproduction does more than keep a species going, though: it is also what introduces the variation among individuals that adaptation and evolution depend on.
