OVE's five educational values — Joy of Effort, Fair Play, Respect for Others, Pursuit of Excellence, and Balance Between Body, Will and Mind — are each drawn from the Mental, Emotional and Physical domains of learning and illustrated by a real athlete's story in the chapter.

Olympic Value Education is based on the idea that learning happens through the balanced development of body and mind, incorporating five educational values from three domains of learning (Mental, Emotional, Physical):

Joy of Effort — every child has a right to enjoy sport, not be over-exerted into bad memories. Kipchoge Keino, who ran miles to school as a boy in Kenya purely for the joy of it, went on to become an international athlete and police fitness trainer.

Fair Play — playing by the rules, carried into everyday behaviour. Eugenio Monti lent his own sled bolt to rivals Nash and Dixon at the 1964 Winter Games so they could race, and was honoured with a Fair Play Trophy even though it cost him gold.

Respect for Others — accepting and respecting diversity in a multicultural world. At the 1936 Berlin Games, German long-jumper Luz Long helped his rival, black American Jesse Owens, qualify for the final despite Nazi Germany's racial politics — Owens went on to win gold. …
