The formula tells us that IQ is a percentage — it compares how a child’s mental development (MA) measures up against their actual age (CA). When IQ is exactly 100, mental age equals chronological age: the child is developing right on schedule. An IQ above 100 means mental age is ahead of chronological age; below 100 means it’s behind.
Here, all children have the same chronological age: years. So the only thing that varies is their mental age. The problem gives us a range for IQ, and asks for the corresponding range of MA.
