Emasculation removes a flower's own anthers before pollen release, so plant breeders can control which pollen fertilises it.

Emasculation is the process of removing the anthers from a bisexual flower bud (using forceps) before the anthers dehisce and shed pollen, done while the flower is still in bud stage.

Usefulness in plant breeding: In a bisexual flower, self-pollination would occur naturally when the flower's own anthers mature and release pollen onto its own stigma. To create a planned cross (hybrid) between two selected parent plants, breeders must prevent this self-pollination.
