Types of Services

The service sector can be divided into three broad categories: business services, social services and personal services.

• Business Services — services used by business enterprises to run their activities. Examples: banking, insurance, transportation, warehousing and communication services.
• Social Services — services provided voluntarily to pursue certain social goals, such as raising the standard of living of weaker sections, giving education to their children, or providing health care and hygienic conditions in slum areas. They are usually offered voluntarily but for some consideration to cover their costs — for example, health-care and education services run by certain NGOs and government agencies. …
