Step 1 — find the sizes on the computer.
- RAM: Settings → System → About → "Installed RAM" (or Task Manager → Performance → Memory).
- HDD: open This PC — each drive shows its total capacity (or Settings → System → Storage).
Step 2 — the unit ladder. Storage units grow in steps of 1024:
1 KB = 1024 B 1 MB = 1024 KB 1 GB = 1024 MB
So to express a size given in GB in smaller units, multiply by 1024 once for MB, again for KB, and again for Bytes.
Step 3 — worked example. Suppose the school computer reports 8 GB RAM and a 500 GB HDD (an example — substitute your machine's actual figures):
RAM: 8 GB = 8 x 1024 = 8,192 MB = 8,192 x 1024 = 8,388,608 KB = 8,388,608 x 1024 = 8,589,934,592 Bytes.
HDD: 500 GB = 500 x 1024 = 512,000 MB = 512,000 x 1024 = 524,288,000 KB = 524,288,000 x 1024 = 536,870,912,000 Bytes.
The table asked for:
| Device | Size in GB | Size in MB | Size in KB | Size in Bytes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| RAM | 8 | 8,192 | 8,388,608 | 8,589,934,592 |
