The human excretory system is the kidneys (which filter blood and form urine via nephrons) plus the ureters, urinary bladder, and urethra that carry, store, and void that urine — this is what a labelled diagram should show.

Since a hand-drawn figure cannot be embedded here, the system is described part by part, as a labelled diagram would show it:

  1. Kidneys (a pair): Bean-shaped, reddish-brown organs situated on either side of the vertebral column in the abdomen, between the levels of the last thoracic and third lumbar vertebra; the left kidney lies slightly higher than the right.
    • Each kidney has a convex outer border and a concave inner border (hilum), through which the renal artery enters, the renal vein and ureter leave.
    • Internally, each kidney has an outer cortex and inner medulla, the medulla divided into medullary pyramids.
    • Each kidney is made up of about a million nephrons (the functional/structural units), each nephron having a Bowman's capsule enclosing a glomerulus (a tuft of capillaries), and a long renal tubule (proximal convoluted tubule, loop of Henle, distal convoluted tubule) that drains into a collecting duct.
  2. Ureters (a pair): Thin muscular tubes, one from each kidney (arising at the hilum), that carry urine down to the urinary bladder by peristalsis. …
