  • (a) Smooth muscle — (iv) Involuntary. Smooth or visceral muscle is found in the inner walls of hollow internal organs such as the alimentary canal and the reproductive tract. Its activity is not under our conscious command, so it is described as involuntary; it quietly pushes food along the gut and moves gametes along the genital tract.
  • (b) Tropomyosin — (ii) Thin filament. The thin filament is actin, and lying alongside its two helically wound strands, running the whole length of the filament, are two filaments of tropomyosin, with the troponin complex sitting on them at regular intervals.
