Kepler's second law (the law of areas) says a planet's radius vector to the Sun sweeps out equal areas in equal times — a direct consequence of angular momentum conservation, since gravity is a central force.

Consider a planet at position r from the Sun, moving with velocity v. In a small time dt, it sweeps out a small triangular area dA ≈ (1/2)|r × v| dt, so the areal velocity is:

dA/dt = (1/2)|r × v| = L/(2m)

where L = m(r × v) is the planet's angular momentum about the Sun and m its mass.
