Newton's second law gives F = ma (rate of change of momentum equals net force); Newton's third law says forces always occur in equal-and-opposite pairs on two different bodies.

Newton's Second Law of Motion: The rate of change of linear momentum of a body is directly proportional to the applied net external force, and the change takes place in the direction of the force. Mathematically, F = dp/dt. Since p = mv, for constant mass, F = m(dv/dt) = ma. This law lets us calculate the acceleration produced by a known force (or the force needed to produce a given acceleration), and it is the quantitative basis of all of dynamics.
