The third equation of motion, v² = u² + 2as, is derived by eliminating time between the first two equations of motion.

For an object moving with uniform acceleration a, starting with initial velocity u, reaching final velocity v after time t, and covering displacement s:

First equation: v = u + at → t = (v − u)/a ... (1)

Second equation: s = ut + ½at² ... (2)

Substitute t from (1) into (2):

s = u[(v − u)/a] + ½a[(v − u)/a]²

s = [u(v − u)]/a + [(v − u)²]/(2a)

Multiply throughout by 2a: …
