Rearranging Newton's law of gravitation for G and substituting the dimensions of force, distance and mass gives [M−1L3T−2][M^{-1}L^{3}T^{-2}].

Newton's law of gravitation states F=Gm1m2r2F = G\dfrac{m_1 m_2}{r^2}, so

G=Fr2m1m2G = \dfrac{F r^2}{m_1 m_2}

Now substitute dimensions: force FF has dimensions [MLT−2][M L T^{-2}], distance r2r^2 has dimensions [L2][L^2], and m1m2m_1 m_2 has dimensions [M2][M^2].

[G]=[MLT−2][L2][M2]=[M−1L3T−2][G] = \dfrac{[MLT^{-2}][L^2]}{[M^2]} = [M^{-1}L^{3}T^{-2}]
