KE = p^2/2m, so a 50% increase in momentum (p' = 1.5p) makes KE become (1.5)^2 = 2.25 times the original.

Momentum and kinetic energy are related by:

KE = p^2 / (2m)

If momentum increases by 50%, the new momentum is:

p' = p + 0.5p = 1.5p

The new kinetic energy is:

KE' = (p')^2 / (2m) = (1.5p)^2 / (2m) = 2.25 × [p^2/(2m)] = 2.25 × KE
