Two organisational objectives of management: survival and profit (the third being growth).

Organisational objectives are the objectives management must achieve for the organisation as a whole. The three basic ones are survival, profit and growth. Two of them, explained:

  1. Survival — the most basic objective of any organisation is to survive, i.e. to continue to exist. For this, management must ensure that the enterprise earns enough revenue to cover its costs. An organisation that cannot cover its costs will cease to exist.

  2. Profit — mere survival is not enough; the organisation must earn a reasonable profit (excess of revenue over cost). Profit is essential to meet the cost of operations, reward the owners for their investment and risk, and provide funds for future expansion and modernisation.
