Departmentalisation is the process of grouping similar or related activities into separate units (departments) so that work can be coordinated and managed effectively.

In the organising function, once the total work is divided into jobs, the related jobs and activities are grouped together into larger units called departments. This process of grouping is called departmentalisation. It can be done on different bases:
