A. Principle of Initiative — According to Fayol, initiative means taking the first step with self-motivation. Workers should be encouraged to develop and carry out their own plans and ideas within their sphere of work, and management should create an environment that welcomes suggestions and gives employees a chance to show initiative. When employees are allowed to take initiative, they feel valued, which increases their motivation, commitment and sense of belonging, and the organisation benefits from their fresh ideas. Management should not criticise honest mistakes made while taking initiative; otherwise employees will stop trying.
