Three key parts of the female reproductive system are the ovary (gamete + hormone production), the fallopian tube (site of fertilisation and transport), and the uterus (site of implantation and foetal development).

Ovary: The paired primary female reproductive organs. They produce the female gamete (ovum) through oogenesis, and secrete the steroid hormones oestrogen and progesterone, which regulate the menstrual cycle and secondary sexual characters.

Fallopian tube (oviduct): Extends from the region of the ovary to the uterus. It receives the ovum released at ovulation through its funnel-shaped infundibulum with fimbriae; fertilisation of the ovum by sperm normally occurs in the ampullary region of the fallopian tube, after which the zygote is transported towards the uterus by ciliary and muscular movement.
