Cellular endosperm forms as a solid mass of cells from the start, because cytokinesis (wall formation) accompanies every nuclear division of the primary endosperm nucleus.

Formation: After double fertilisation, the primary endosperm nucleus (PEN, triploid, 3n — formed by fusion of one male gamete with the two polar nuclei/secondary nucleus) begins dividing mitotically. In the cellular type, cell wall formation occurs after each and every nuclear division, so the tissue is cellular (made of distinct, walled cells) right from the first division onward — unlike the free-nuclear type (e.g. coconut), where many free nuclei form first (as in liquid coconut water) and walls are laid down only later.
