An azeotrope is a solution that behaves like a single pure liquid on boiling, i.e. the vapour has the same composition as the liquid, so its constituents cannot be separated by fractional distillation; minimum-boiling azeotropes arise from solutions showing positive deviation from Raoult's law.

A solution showing positive deviation (where A-B interactions are weaker than A-A/B-B) has vapour pressure higher than predicted, and at one particular composition the vapour pressure is at a maximum - so the boiling point is at a minimum (lower than either pure component). This mixture is a minimum-boiling azeotrope.
