The range of a relation is the set of all second components (bb values) that actually occur in it.

We are given R={(a,b):a=b−2, b<6}R=\{(a,b): a=b-2,\ b<6\} defined on N={1,2,3,… }N=\{1,2,3,\dots\}.

Since b<6b<6 and b∈Nb\in N, the candidates are b∈{1,2,3,4,5}b\in\{1,2,3,4,5\}.

But a=b−2a=b-2 must also be a natural number, i.e. a≥1a\ge 1, so b−2≥1⇒b≥3b-2\ge 1\Rightarrow b\ge 3.
