Faraday's law gives the magnitude (and, with Lenz's law, the direction) of the emf induced by a changing magnetic flux.

i) Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction: Whenever the magnetic flux linked with a circuit changes, an emf is induced in it, and the magnitude of the induced emf is equal to the rate of change of magnetic flux linkage:

ε=−Ndϕdt\varepsilon = -N\dfrac{d\phi}{dt}

where NN is the number of turns and ϕ\phi is the magnetic flux through one turn.
