The electric potential of an isolated point charge decreases inversely with distance from the charge.

Electric potential at a point is the work done per unit positive charge in bringing a small test charge from infinity to that point, against the field of +Q+Q:

V(r)=−∫∞rE⃗⋅dr⃗V(r) = -\int_{\infty}^{r} \vec{E}\cdot d\vec{r}, with E=14πε0Qr2E = \dfrac{1}{4\pi\varepsilon_0}\dfrac{Q}{r^2} (radially outward)

Carrying out the integration:

V(r)=14πε0Qr=kQrV(r) = \dfrac{1}{4\pi\varepsilon_0}\dfrac{Q}{r} = \dfrac{kQ}{r}
