Interference combines light from two distinct coherent sources with equally-spaced, equally-bright fringes; diffraction combines wavelets from a single wavefront (e.g. through one slit/obstacle) giving a bright, wide central band flanked by rapidly-dimming, unequal fringes.

Difference 1 — Origin:

Interference results from the superposition of light waves coming from two (or more) distinct coherent sources (e.g. the two slits in Young's double-slit experiment). Diffraction results from the superposition of secondary wavelets originating from different points of the same wavefront after it passes an obstacle or aperture (e.g. a single narrow slit), as described by Huygens' principle.
