Interference redistributes intensity via superposition of coherent waves; polarisation confines the light wave's vibration to one plane.

a) Interference of light: When two coherent light waves (same frequency, constant phase difference) overlap in a region of space, they superpose according to the principle of superposition. At points where the waves arrive in phase, they reinforce (constructive interference — bright fringe); where they arrive out of phase, they cancel (destructive interference — dark fringe). This redistribution of light intensity, without any gain or loss of total energy, is called interference — seen e.g. in Young's double-slit experiment.
