  1. A large, bright central maximum centred at θ = 0, containing most of the light. Its intensity is I0I_0.
  2. On either side, minima occur where asin⁡θ=nλa\sin\theta = n\lambda (n = 1, 2, 3, ...), where a is the slit width. At these points I = 0.
  3. Between consecutive minima lie secondary maxima, much fainter than the central one. Their intensities fall off rapidly — roughly I0/22I_0/22, I0/61I_0/61, ... for the first, second, ... side maxima. …
