Olympism is a philosophy of life that combines, in a balanced whole, the qualities of body, will and mind. It places sport at the service of the harmonious development of the whole person and, through the joy of effort, good example and respect for ethical principles, aims to build a peaceful and better world. Its spirit is carried by three core values.
1. Excellence — Excellence means giving one's best, on the field and in life, and progressing according to one's own goals and abilities rather than only beating others. It is expressed through effort, dedication and the will to improve. Example: a student who trains daily and keeps improving their own personal-best long-jump distance, celebrating that growth even without a medal.
2. Friendship — Friendship uses sport to build mutual understanding and lasting bonds between individuals and nations, despite differences of culture and country. It is expressed as solidarity and team spirit. Example: athletes from rival nations who live together in the Olympic Village, share experiences and become lifelong friends, showing that sport can unite where politics divides. …
