The ten principles of sports training (section 10.1.3) make clear that training load alone is not sufficient. The Principle of Variety warns that training can become boring for both athlete and coach over a long-term process, and that a successful coach deliberately varies exercise, timing, group and environment to sustain motivation. The Principle of Uniformity requires considering the individual's sex, age, psychological differences and training level, rather than applying one plan uniformly to everyone.
