Monocotyledonous Stem
The monocotyledonous stem differs from the dicot stem in several characteristic ways. Its main features are:
- a sclerenchymatous hypodermis lying below the epidermis;
- a large number of scattered vascular bundles, each surrounded by a sclerenchymatous bundle sheath; and
- a large, conspicuous parenchymatous ground tissue, since the ground tissue is not differentiated into cortex, endodermis and pith as in the dicot stem. …
