Concept
On redemption of debentures out of the company's own resources, the amount due is first credited to the debentureholders and then paid through the bank. After the debentures are fully redeemed, the Debenture Redemption Reserve created for them has served its purpose and is transferred to General Reserve (a free reserve).
Working Note
- Amount payable on redemption = 4,000 × ₹100 = ₹4,00,000 (redeemed at par).
- DRR available = ₹50,000. The reserve required (10% of the face value of debentures = 10% of ₹4,00,000 = ₹40,000) is already covered, so no further DRR needs to be created before redemption.
