Annual income = ₹165; rate of interest on the investment =750121%≈6.20%= \dfrac{750}{121}\% \approx 6.20\%.

Solution

88 shares of ₹25 each, bought at ₹5 premium, brokerage ₹¼ per share, dividend 7½% p.a.

Cost of investment. Dividend is paid on face value, but the price paid includes premium and brokerage:

Cost per share=25⏟face+5⏟premium+0.25⏟brokerage=₹30.25\text{Cost per share} = \underbrace{25}_{\text{face}} + \underbrace{5}_{\text{premium}} + \underbrace{0.25}_{\text{brokerage}} = ₹30.25

Total investment=88×30.25=₹2662\text{Total investment} = 88 \times 30.25 = ₹2662

Annual income. The dividend is 7½% of the face value:

Dividend per share=7.5100×25=₹1.875\text{Dividend per share} = \frac{7.5}{100}\times 25 = ₹1.875 …
