Where Laspeyres' Index freezes the weights at the base year, the Paasche Index — proposed by German statistician Hermann Paasche in 1874 — instead uses current-period quantities as weights, revising the basket to reflect what is actually being consumed today:

InPa=∑pnQn∑p0Qn×100I_n^{Pa} = \dfrac{\sum p_n Q_n}{\sum p_0 Q_n} \times 100

Here QnQ_n is the quantity of usage in the current period nn, while p0p_0 and pnp_n remain the unit prices in the base and current periods respectively.
