Age Group: 9–18+ Years | Class 4 to 12
From Class 4 onward, students are expected to have an overall level of physical fitness, and the SAI Khelo India Fitness Test records a fuller Physical Health and Fitness Profile for this age band. The following components are considered:
- Body Composition (BMI)
- Strength — (a) Abdominal (Partial Curl-Up) and (b) Muscular Endurance (Push-Ups for boys, Modified Push-Ups for girls)
- Flexibility (Sit and Reach Test)
- Cardiovascular Endurance (600 Metre Run/Walk)
- Speed (50 m Dash)
Each of these tests is described in the sections that follow.
Why These Five Components, Specifically
Each of the five components targets a different, largely independent, aspect of physical fitness, so that a single BMI number or a single running time never has to stand in for "overall fitness." Body composition (BMI) looks at the balance of body mass; strength and muscular endurance look at how hard and how long the muscles can work; flexibility looks at the range of motion around the joints; cardiovascular endurance looks at how well the heart and lungs sustain effort; and speed looks at how quickly the neuromuscular system can produce a short, explosive movement. Together they give a profile, not a single score — a student can be strong but inflexible, or fast but with poor cardiovascular endurance, and the battery is designed to reveal exactly that kind of pattern.
How the Profile Is Used
Results from all five tests are recorded through the Khelo India Fitness Assessment App and reviewed on the School Dashboard, so a student's profile can be tracked from one year to the next rather than viewed as a single one-off score. A teacher or school can use the profile to spot a weak component early — for example good strength but poor flexibility — and plan targeted activities such as stretching routines, short sprint drills or core-strengthening circuits, instead of generic, undifferentiated exercise for the whole class.
