The Fitness Index formula:
Fitness Index = (Duration of the Exercise in Seconds × 100) ÷ (5.5 × Pulse count of 1-1.5 min after Exercise)
A longer exercise duration (closer to the full 300 seconds) increases the numerator, raising the score; a lower recovery pulse count decreases the denominator, also raising the score — so the formula captures both how long a subject could sustain the effort and how quickly their heart rate recovers, both markers of aerobic fitness. …
