Q.Explain the classification of Industry with suitable examples. Draw a chart to show this classification.
Meaning of Industry: Industry refers to economic activity concerned with the extraction, production, processing, or construction of goods — converting raw materials or natural resources into a usable, valuable form.
(A) Primary Industry — works directly with nature to obtain the first, basic form of raw material:
- Extractive Industry — draws out products directly from soil, air, or water, without any breeding process. Examples: coal mining, petroleum drilling, fishing, agriculture.
- Genetic Industry — breeds and multiplies plants and animals. Examples: plant nurseries, cattle breeding, poultry farms, fish hatcheries.
(B) Secondary Industry (Manufacturing Industry) — converts primary industry's raw material into semi-finished or finished goods:
- Analytical Industry — one raw material is broken down into several products. Example: crude petroleum refined into petrol, diesel, and kerosene.
- Synthetic Industry — several raw materials are combined into one product. Example: limestone, clay, and gypsum combined into cement.
- Processing Industry — a raw material passes through successive stages to become a finished product. Example: sugarcane processed in stages into sugar; cotton processed into cloth.
- Assembling Industry — separately manufactured parts are assembled into a final product. Example: components assembled into an automobile or a computer.
(C) Construction Industry — erects immovable structures at the very site they will be used. Examples: construction of buildings, roads, bridges, and dams.
Classification chart (described):
Industry
├── Primary Industry
│ ├── Extractive (mining, fishing, agriculture)
│ └── Genetic (nurseries, cattle breeding)
├── Secondary Industry (Manufacturing)
│ ├── Analytical (petroleum refining)
│ ├── Synthetic (cement)
│ ├── Processing (sugar, textiles)
│ └── Assembling (automobiles)
└── Construction Industry (buildings, roads, dams)
(The rendered chapter page carries this same classification as a drawn figure — see the note at this point in the reading section.)
Industry classifies into: (1) Primary Industry — Extractive (mining, fishing, agriculture) and Genetic (nurseries, cattle breeding); (2) Secondary/Manufacturing Industry — Analytical (petroleum refining), Synthetic (cement), Processing (sugar, textiles), and Assembling (automobiles); (3) Construction Industry (buildings, roads, dams).
