Tamil Nadu has notable deposits of lignite, limestone, magnesite, bauxite, gypsum, granite and rare beach-sand minerals, which supply its cement, chemical and power industries.

Although Tamil Nadu is not among the mineral-richest states, it has several economically important minerals:
