CONCEPT MAP

The unit's concept map is rooted at "Chemistry - the centre of life" leading into "Chemical substances (matter)", which branches first into Elements and Compounds. From there the map fans out along two main strands.

The first strand is the quantitative-measurement strand: Atomic mass and Gram atomic mass feed into the Mole concept, which itself connects to Molar mass and Molar volume; alongside this, Percentage composition feeds into Empirical formula and, from there, Molecular formula.

The second strand is the chemical-reactions strand: Chemical reactions split into Stoichiometry (directly linked to the Limiting reagent) and Redox reactions. Redox reactions themselves branch four ways: into the Equivalent mass concept (covering the equivalent mass of acids, bases, and oxidants/reductants); into the Oxidation number concept; into the five Types of redox reactions (combination, decomposition, displacement, disproportionation, and competitive electron transfer); and into Balancing redox reactions, split into the oxidation number method and the ion-electron method. …
