Different types of Measurement Systems

A system of units is a complete set of units used to measure all fundamental and derived quantities. Historically, mechanics used three different systems, distinguished by which three base units they chose for length, mass and time:

  • f.p.s. system -- the British Engineering system: foot, pound, second.
  • c.g.s. system -- the Gaussian system: centimetre, gram, second.
  • m.k.s. system -- metre, kilogram, second. …
