Advantages of Robotics
Before listing robotics' advantages, the book explains what robot bodies are actually built from. Aluminium and steel are the most common metals used: aluminium is a softer metal and therefore easier to work with, while steel is several times stronger. Because of the inherent strength of metal, robot bodies are typically made using sheet, bar, rod, channel and other structural shapes. Seven advantages follow. (1) Robots are much cheaper than humans to operate over time. (2) Robots never get tired the way humans do -- they can work 24x7, which can reduce workplace absenteeism. (3) Robots are more precise and error-free in performing a task. (4) Robots are stronger and faster than humans. (5) Robots can work in extreme environmental conditions -- extreme heat or cold, space, or underwater -- and in dangerous situations such as bomb detection and bomb deactivation. (6) In warfare, robots can save human lives by taking on the most dangerous roles directly. (7) Robots …
