Step 1. Let P(x,y)P(x,y) be any point on the locus.

Step 2. The condition is that the area of triangle PABPAB, with A(1,0)A(1,0) and B(0,1)B(0,1) fixed, equals 22 square units.

Step 3. Using the coordinate area formula for a triangle with vertices P(x,y)P(x,y), A(1,0)A(1,0), B(0,1)B(0,1): Area=12∣x(0−1)+1(1−y)+0(y−0)∣=12∣−x+1−y∣=12∣1−x−y∣\text{Area}=\dfrac12\left|x(0-1)+1(1-y)+0(y-0)\right| = \dfrac12\left|-x+1-y\right| = \dfrac12|1-x-y|. The condition becomes 12∣1−x−y∣=2\dfrac12|1-x-y|=2.

Step 4. So ∣1−x−y∣=4|1-x-y|=4, giving 1−x−y=41-x-y=4 or 1−x−y=−41-x-y=-4. The first gives x+y=−3x+y=-3, i.e. x+y+3=0x+y+3=0; the second gives x+y=5x+y=5, i.e. x+y−5=0x+y-5=0. …
