Boyle's law: at constant temperature, V is inversely proportional to P (PV = constant). Charles's law: at constant pressure, V is directly proportional to absolute temperature T (V/T = constant).

Boyle's Law:

It states that at constant temperature, the volume V of a given (fixed) mass of gas is inversely proportional to its pressure P.

V is proportional to 1/P (at constant T)

or

PV = constant

So if the pressure of a gas is increased at constant temperature, its volume decreases in the same proportion, and vice versa. (P1 V1 = P2 V2.)

Charles's Law:

It states that at constant pressure, the volume V of a given (fixed) mass of gas is directly proportional to its absolute (kelvin) temperature T.

V is proportional to T (at constant P)

or

V / T = constant …
