The excess pressure inside a liquid drop is P = 2S/r, where S is the surface tension and r is the radius.

A small liquid drop has one liquid surface (the outer curved surface). Because of surface tension, this curved surface tends to contract, which makes the pressure inside the drop slightly greater than the pressure outside. This difference is called the excess pressure.

For a spherical liquid drop of radius r and surface tension S, balancing the force due to excess pressure against the surface-tension force around the drop gives:

Excess pressure, P = 2S / r
