Definition: In many terrestrial invertebrates that must conserve water, nitrogenous waste (uric acid, highly insoluble) is not excreted as fast as it is produced. Instead, it accumulates and is stored, usually as solid crystalline deposits, within specific cells or tissues of the body, sometimes for the animal's entire life. This mode of handling nitrogenous waste is termed storage excretion.
