Technical Committee

When a school or institution organises a sports event, the Technical Committee is the group specifically responsible for everything that makes the actual competition run correctly — the rules, the fixtures, the officials, and the results. It is one of the standard committees (alongside Logistics, Finance, and Marketing) formed under the main Organising Committee, and its focus is narrower and more specialised than the others: it exists to get the sport itself right.

Responsibilities Before the Event

• Working out exactly what equipment is needed and requisitioning it
• Inviting and confirming officials — umpires, referees, judges, timekeepers
• Laying out the field or court to the correct dimensions and markings
• Preparing the fixtures (the match schedule/draw) and finalising the rules the event will follow

Responsibilities During the Event

• Conducting the matches according to the rules and the fixture
• Ensuring a jury or panel is present to handle disputes or protests
• Collecting completed score sheets from each match as it finishes
• Preparing the merit list — the ranking of teams or individuals based on results

Responsibilities After the Event

• Cleaning and restoring the field or venue to its normal condition
• Storing equipment properly for future use
