Q.Write about the objectives of Intramural tournaments.
Intramurals aim to involve as many students as possible, develop them as people (not just athletes), and give them a safe first taste of competition.
The textbook lists seven objectives of intramural tournaments:
- To encourage mass participation in sports in an institution.
- To focus on all-round development of children.
- To develop values like fair play, respect and friendship through sports.
- To provide a first opportunity to compete in a controlled environment.
- To focus on fitness, wellness and health aspects of children.
- To promote curricular integration through sports.
- To help children develop personality — the first stage of leadership, control of emotions, cooperation, etc.
Notice that none of these objectives is really about finding the single best athlete — intramurals are deliberately mass-participation, development-focused events, which is also why they make such a good, low-pressure training ground before a student is selected for extramural competition.
Intramural tournaments aim to involve every student (mass participation), develop them holistically (fitness, values, personality) and give them a safe first competitive experience — rather than to find only the most talented athlete.
