Vulcanization is heating raw rubber with sulphur to introduce cross-links, improving its strength and elasticity.

Natural rubber (cis-1,4-polyisoprene) is soft, sticky when warm, brittle when cold, and has low tensile strength. Vulcanization improves these properties.

Process:
