Raoult's law relates a component's partial vapour pressure in a solution to its mole fraction and its pure-state vapour pressure.

Statement (volatile solute-solvent pair): In a solution of two or more volatile liquids, the partial vapour pressure of each component at a given temperature is directly proportional to its mole fraction in the solution.

For a component ii: pi=xi pi0p_i = x_i \, p_i^0

where xix_i is the mole fraction of component ii in the liquid phase and pi0p_i^0 is the vapour pressure of pure component ii at that temperature.

Total vapour pressure of the solution (Dalton's law + Raoult's law): ptotal=p1+p2=x1p10+x2p20p_{total} = p_1 + p_2 = x_1 p_1^0 + x_2 p_2^0
