5x+1(x+2)(x−1)=3x+2+2x−1\dfrac{5x+1}{(x+2)(x-1)} = \dfrac{3}{x+2} + \dfrac{2}{x-1}.

Since the denominator has distinct linear factors, write

5x+1(x+2)(x−1)=Ax+2+Bx−1\dfrac{5x+1}{(x+2)(x-1)} = \dfrac{A}{x+2} + \dfrac{B}{x-1}.

Multiply through by (x+2)(x−1)(x+2)(x-1):

5x+1=A(x−1)+B(x+2)5x + 1 = A(x-1) + B(x+2).

Put x=1x = 1: 5(1)+1=B(3)⇒6=3B⇒B=25(1)+1 = B(3) \Rightarrow 6 = 3B \Rightarrow B = 2.
