- Increase yield of sugarcane — Gibberellin is the regulator sprayed on a sugarcane crop; it increases the length of the stem, and because the crop stores its sugar in the stem, this stem elongation raises sugar yield substantially, by as much as 20 tonnes per acre.
- Promote lateral shoot growth — Cytokinin is the regulator responsible for this.
